PROM II BENEFITS OF HAVING AN OLDER/YOUNGER SISTER

Being an older sister:

There's so much that could be incorporated into this post .. but since this post is about my little sister's prom I'll only focus on the benefits & disadvantage of being an older sister when it comes to prom.
so I guess I'll begin by telling you all about my own prom experience... some six years ago *she said suddenly feeling old*. This ties into the first disadvantage of having to be the first to go through the experience of prom - having no one to learn from and/or help you out. Looking back, Boy did I need it. I only had my mother whom I certainly was not going to rely on for any styling tips whatsoever. Why you ask?...umm...because she was my mother and, in my mind back then, she did not know what she was talking about when it came to fashion.
And then there were my girlfriends. I love you girls, but they were no help either. None of us were any help to each other lol... because we were all in the same damn boat and quite frankly, we all looked a hot mess. In our defence though, we did try guys. we really did. I particularly recall the day we hunted through the whole of Bromley shopping centre, looking for some decent dresses, the ones we ended up with were really last resort.
So I ended up with a tight-as-hell-riding-up-my-backside-every-two-steps-I-took black and (hot) pink striped mini dress that cost me about £40. To complete the look I (very badly) applied baby pink eyeshadow to my eyelids, wore hot pink court heels and a hot pink pashmina scarf - and to top it all off, my weave was dry and seriously ratchet. So you can just imagine the extent of the cringeful feeling I get when I remember how I left my house that day.

Having a younger sister:

As my sister was nearing her prom I was more than ready. I knew exactly how I was going to vicariously redeem myself through her - and that's the benefit of having a younger sister.... My sister isn't as girly as me. She doesn't care much for make up and/or fashion - somewhat tomboy-ish. So she was the perfect blank canvas for me to impose my vision on. She had no ideas whatsoever about what kind of dress or look she wanted. I had full creative control from her head to her feet...so I just feel like you can't get any more vicarious than this ya know? And she also benefited from having a big sister who had already trialed and errored and learnt lol. I'm proud to say that I'm fully redeemed and vindicated by how on fleek I made my baby sister look on her prom day. At least she'll have better throwback Thursday pictures of her prom than I do lol. Makeup & styled by me :) (Catch the pics below). I hope to be doing a lot more 'Styled be Jessica' posts with other special guests, so do look out for those.

I originally picked out four different dresses from ASOS for her to pick from, and through the process of elimination and my mum's corporation also, we decided to go with this lovely prom style dress with open back detail and silver embroidery on the front. Her prom dress had a £45 price tag - nly £5 difference from my dress but the difference in style and quality is massive. The shoes she borrowed from myself (another benefit of having an older sister) and the bag and jewelry were also borrowed from my mum.
