'Be good to your skin - you'll wear it everyday for the rest of your life'.
Hi beauties! Hope you're all doing well. If you're a skincare nut, you'll enjoy this read!
I usually dab in and out of skincare. Some months I'm a thousand percent obsessed, buying all sorts of products, watching tutorials on how to make my own skin scrubs and doing extensive research as to which types of food I should eat to promote healthier skin. Other months I successfully convince myself that the bare minimum is just fine. A little while before Christmas, I was going through my usual obsession phase and made a reasonably dear purchase (it's only just arrived in the post) on the above pictured mask set, the rightly named 'Peter Thomas Roth Mask-a-holic' set.
At present I have not tried any of them.
But I plan on trying out each of these masks over a 3 month period and documenting my experiences with each one on this blog. So let me be your guinea pig and check back regularly to see my results, especially if you're thinking of getting yourself this set, or any one of these masks.
For now though, let me give you guys a quick and easy low-down on each mask and how exactly they are meant to benefit your skin;
Smell: it smells like nothing. Simple as that, lol.
Ingredients: Pure Gold & Colloidal Gold
Colloidal gold or 'nanogold' consists of small, microscopic gold particles suspended in distilled water or any other liquid. The solution is used typically in the form of ointment to treat various skin disorders including eczema, fungal infections, skin rash, wounds, skin burns and so on. It is used as an ingredient in anti-ageing skin care products. It regenerates the cells, restores their normal elastic properties and improves the skin condition.
What it does: From the name of it, we can already see it's purpose is to lift & firm the skin. Now you may be 20 something years old like me, or even younger, reading this and thinking 'I'm still young, I don't need lifting & firming'. Well, neither do I, but a wise friend once informed me that in order to get the full benefits of anti-ageing products in your fourties, you must start using them in your twenties. I always used to ignore anti ageing products and even not purchase products I actually needed if they stated they were anti ageing - don't really know why, lol. Now that I know this valuable piece of information, anti ageing products are definitely welcome in my vanity.
It also brightens, refreshes and smooths your skin.

No.1 / The 24k Gold (Pure Luxury Lift & Firm) Mask
Presentation: This looks like a jar of very expensive golden jam. I mean, it looks delicious, and I cannot believe it's meant to go on my face for a few minutes and then down my sink drain *sigh*
Smell: it smells like nothing. Simple as that, lol.

No.2 / The Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask
Presentation: Cute. Black is one of my favourite colours so the look of this jar is very pleasing to my eye and would look great for my minimalist inspired flatlay insta pics lol.
Smell: It says its odourless, and it is.
Ingredients: Irish Moor Mud, Hijiki Seaweed, Volcanic Ash and Activated Charcoal.
Hijiki is also used in foods and has lots of other health benefits you should definitely look up.
What it does: I never heard of 'Irish Moor Mud' before now, but I do love me a good mud mask and I do them often. So I'm looking forward to trying this one out. Each ingredient making up this mask does something different and I'm assuming they all work together to make a bomb mud mask. I have high expectations for this one, I can't lie.
The Irish Moor Mud is mineral-rich and helps to purify and refine the skin. The Hijiki Seaweed hydrates. The Volcanic Ash revitalizes and the Activated Charcoal draws out toxins and impurities minimizing the looks of pores, fine lines and wrinkles, leaving skin looking radiant. Yaasss!
No.3 / The Cucumber Gel Mask
Presentation: Looks like the hair styling gel I used to use to destroy my hair when I was 14 lol!
Smell: It also smells like the hair styling gel I used to use when I was 14 lol. Not a bad smell though. Was expecting a more cucumber-y smell.
Ingredients: Extracts of; Cucumber, Papaya, Chamomile Pineapple, Sugar Maple, Sugarcane, Orange, Lemon Bilberry, Aloe.
I think a lot of us already know how beneficial these ingredients are to the skin, I see them being used all the time in home made skin scrubs/masks.
Lemon Bilberry is a great source of antioxidants. Antioxidants, in your skincare and diet, are a major key to good skin.
What it does: Refreshes, cools and calms, moisturizes and soothes dry irritated skin. Dry irritated skin is not one of my problem areas so I'm not sure how much, if at all, I'll be using this one.
No.4 / The Pumpkin Enzyme Mask
Presentation: It looks like a scrub, I can see the little particles and I can feel that exfoliating feeling on my face just looking at it!
Smell: It smells like some sort of ginger bread-y, cinnamon-y, pumpkin-y biscuit. Quite delightful.
Ingredients: Pumpkin enzyme, alpa hydroxy acid, aluminum oxide.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids originate from milk and fruit sugars. Their main benefit is their ability to exfoliate and remove old, dead skin cells, revealing a new layer of skin and aiding new skin cells to grow. It reduces the likelihood of wrinkles and other ageing signs. It can also help hyper pigmented skin become smoother and more even (this might just become my new bae).
Aluminum Oxide is an ingredient very commonly and popularly used in microdermabrasion treatments. It has the effect of 'sanding' away top layers of the skin by removing dead and dull layers, revealing a smoother, more even toned layer with a healthy glow and clear pores (this sounds like heaven).
What it does: This mask is described on the jar as a 'three-in-one' intensive skin regenerator, and that it is. The pumpkin enzyme exfoliates, the alpha hydroxy acid peels and the aluminum oxide polishes. All the ingredients have amazing yet intensive exfoliating properties so it's important to not use this as often as you might do the others. Too much exfoliation is no bueno. It states on the jar to use once or twice a week. If your skin is sensitive it might be enough to use this just once or twice a month.
No.5 / The Blue Marine Algae
Presentation: Much like the Cucumber gel mask, this also looks like a little jar of hair styling gel - but it has blue sparkles *insert heart eyes*
Smell: Just like a tub of hair gel you'd get from your local afro-caribbean hair shop lol.
Ingredients: Glacial lake blue marine algae, Korean Jeju Island tea, Arctic glacial antarcticine
What it does: Nourishes, hydrates, and refreshes the skin, helps to smooth out lines and wrinkles. The nutrient rich glacial lake blue marine algae delivers maximum anti-ageing moisture and the Arctic glacial antarcticine creates an eco-bubble barrier to help defend against environmental aggressions.
If you've made it here, my lye-in on my day off that I sacrificed to finish this post was well worth it lol. Thanks so much for reading!
