VOILA! Summer Time Colour Blocking I

Hi guys! It's been a while so I thought I'd make a colourful comeback with two new posts to kick start summer. Now I am writing this with the utmost faith that Summer will actually grace us soon here in London as we swiftly move into the month of May, after about a week of lovely summer weather, we seem to be back to the norm but I am hopeful.

Anyway I hope you are all doing great. This summer I am challenging myself to wear a lot more colour and patterns than I usually do - which isn't a lot. If there was ever a season to experiment with different colours and patterns, its summer. Get ready for an explosion of colour on this blog.

Colour-blocking in fashion is the act of pairing contrasting [blocks and/or panels of] typically bright colours. Colour-blocking is usually found on one item of clothing however I thought to create colour blocking outfits by putting contrasting bright coloured clothing together and not have it look like a colourful train wreck.

Brightly coloured slogan Tees are definitely catching my eye recently and they are a fun way to start welcoming colour into your wardrobe and outfits. This one's from New Look

This cute, flirty, polka-dot mini skirt is from Primark. The polka-dot pattern definitely caught my eye as I don't think I owned anything polka-dot before this skirt and it's definitely up my street. I reckon its red but my sister swears its pink - what do you guys think? Whatever colour it is I already imagine it in a whole lot of other combinations, looking forward to playing with this all summer.

Fanny packs are really my new thing. A few years ago I would've laughed at the idea of wearing one but it's one trend I'm quite happy to be indulging in this time around. They are just so handy (quite literally) and can give your outfit a really cool touch. This one is from Primark, I went for a more flush colour so as to not make the whole outfit too loud but it compliments the rest of the outfit really well.

This Blazer of many colours is courtesy of my mum's wardrobe and I have no clue where this one hails from. It was a last minute addition to the outfit before I headed out the door. It's a floral pattern and I thought it would be a cool contrast against the polka-dot skirt. The colours in it are not too bright and so it doesn't overpower the outfit and make the whole thing look like too much is going on, I love how it brings the whole outfit together.

A pair of simple black slides from Public Desire to finish off this look. Originally, I was wearing a pair of heeled slipper shoes as per the first picture of this post - but my sister kindly pointed out to me that the outfit looked nicer with the slides (as I wore the slides on the way to location) so I took a couple shots in the slides and decided she was right, it's not everyday stiletto's :)
