Who says you can't wear black in the sun? Don't let them lie to you sis. It's never too hot to wear black! - As long as you do it right. Black is such a versatile colour and it definitely shouldn't be confined to the cooler seasons when it comes to fashion.
Although I am not cosigning the 'Mans Not Hot' agenda when its comes to wearing black in the summer, there's a way to rock black and still be able to enjoy the warm weather - if you want to know how, read on for the tips.
It's not tricky to rock black during the summer if you just remember that the aim is to stay [feeling] cool. It might sound contradicting to say wear black and stay cool as we traditionally associate black clothing with retaining heat and keeping you warm. But you can easily achieve this by simply making sure that you are wearing comfortable, light, and breathable fabrics and the fact that it's black won't make the slightest difference to how warm you feel. For example, fabrics such as linen, chiffon and seersucker (a thin cotton fabric commonly used for summer clothing) are perfect for warmer weather - even in black. they are light on the skin and allow air to pass through them easily which makes for a comfortable wearing experience for you!
Another tip is wearing black clothing that reveal a bit of skin. So a low neckline, bare back, a side split or a crop top will do the trick for helping you stay cool in the sun. It was a very hot day on this shoot. I knew I wanted to do an all black outfit but I also knew I didn't want to suffer. So whilst everything is all black (including me - ha!), there is a lot of melanin on show which ultimately kept me cool. Cycle Shorts from Primark to let my legs out in all its cellulite glory. And the top (from Pretty Little Thing) is sleeveless and bare back. It's also a very light material and the breeze blew through it like a dream. No regrets here!
Threw in the fanny pack (also from Primark) and the shades (from TK Maxx) for added cool factor. As versatile as the colour black is, you can literally pair it with anything for a pop of colour and the look is complete. Imagine if my fanny pack and/or shoes were red. Why miss out on that just because the sun's out?!
