It's my brand spanking new series on my blog and YouTube channel!! As we are now (slowly but surely) moving into the warmer seasons, in this series I will be showing you guys how I, and how you too, can find your summer style and build your summer wardrobe.
This mini-series is by no means a one-size-fits-all, quick-fix guide to putting together your summer wardrobe so don't forget to inject your personal style and personality into each step.
Below is episode 1, an introduction to the series and the first stage to building your summer wardrobe. Forgive my endless waffling in the video (I'm a bit rusty having not filmed for a while), but thank God I can write more coherently than I can talk lol.
-THE DETOX-
[Get Rid]
This is the part where you go through all your summer clothes in your wardrobe and get rid of what you don't need. Get rid of any of the following that you come across:
- anything that does not resonate with your personal style
- anything you have not worn in donkey years - or ever!
- anything that you find uncomfortable
Ensure that you throughly assess how you feel about each item so that you do not end up buying the same pieces again when we go shopping.
After deciding what you definitely don't want to keep, now it's time to decide how you're going to get rid of them. Consider the following;
- Donate to charities, or stores like 'traid'. H&M have a 'Recycle your clothes' programme where you can donate old clothes.
- Sell them, on Ebay or Depop.
[Pieces you're unsure about]
If you're a bit like me and you have the tendency of convincing yourself that you need every single thing and every single thing could be useful at some unsuspecting point in your life - sort out your clothes into the following piles:
- Sentimental Pieces, definitely keep those
- If something can be fixed via repairs or altering and tailoring - keep it
-Anything else can be kept to test your faithfulness. Pack them out of sight and see if you even remember that you own them. If you never once reach for them, then you know that you don't want them.
Bottom Line: Keep all the pieces that make you feel like Beyonce. Because what is life if you can't feel like Beyonce sometimes.
- STRATEGISE-
It's all about strategy. Putting together a bomb wardrobe that is tailored to your personal style can be as calculated as trigonometry. But it doesn't have to be, if you know how to go about it. Without strategy, you'll just find yourself right back at square one - loads of clothes but nothing to wear - and we all know how ridiculously frustrating this feeling is.
After detoxing your wardrobe, it's now time to think about what new pieces to add to it and how. We'll delve into this more in the next episode ^_^
